Multimodal transport
Rail, road and sea combined in a single scheme when there is no direct route or it is not optimal in time and cost.
Multimodal transport is delivery under a single contract using several modes. It is needed when there is no direct rail service to the destination, when part of the route is cheaper by sea, or when timing requires a combination. SilkPort Logistics designs the whole scheme: transhipment points, handover between carriers, documents for each leg — while keeping single-point responsibility for the shipment, so the client does not have to assemble a route from separate contracts.
What is included
- Route design matched to deadlines and budget
- Agreement of transhipment points and transfer of responsibility

Frequently asked questions
When is a multimodal scheme better than a direct service?
When there is no direct service, when part of the journey is significantly cheaper by another mode, or when the direct route is congested. Our quote compares the options and shows the difference in cost and number of transhipments.
Who is responsible for the cargo at a transhipment point?
Responsibility and the handover procedure are fixed in the transport contract before departure. For the client there remains a single point of contact — the SilkPort Logistics coordinator who runs the shipment across all legs.
